Connecting PC to Screen?

Hello!
I would very much appreciate it if anybody could answer my question.
So, I have a quite old computer which my father bought but never used. However, I do not have the ability to connect it to the screen. This is what the back of the computer is like: http://postimg.org/image/68dqahh6d/
I have a male VGA cable and a female adaptor.
What kind of cable am I going to need? Is anything broken or will not work?
Thanks for any assistance!

Those white plugs to the right, those would be DVI. You will need a DVI cable to use that graphics card.. Won't be able to tell if anythings broken until you start it up all attached :)

You didn't say what model monitor you have. If your monitor has DVI then buy a DVI cable and you are good to go. If your dad bought a video card with only DVI outputs, I would assume that he had a monitor with DVI inputs. If it doesn't have DVI inputs, then the adapter "Agent Smith" referenced will do the trick.
