Connecting PSU Cables into Mobo

Alright, I'm a little confused here. I'm assembling my new computer right now, and I have the GA-P35-DS3L and OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU. The problem is, on the mobo there is a 24 slot main power connector, and there is also another 4 slot ATX_12v slot..

on the PSU cables, there is a 20-pin cable marked MAIN, and also bundled with it is a 4-pin cable marked 24. So, I put the those two together and put them into the 24 slot main connector accordingly. My question is, the extra ATX_12v slot that's pretty close to the CPU..do I have to connect something in there?

There is a cable that is 4-pin marked CPU1 and another marked CPU2.

do I plug that CPU1 cable into the ATX_12V? thanks for any help :D

The 4pin molex there goes into CPU1 since that's the 12v cpu feed. The other CPU2 is for a second cpu while the third 12v port is an auxillery 12v for addons or when needing the additional power for a higher end video card, SLI or Crossfire, etc. there maybe a case fan.

All newer boards since the first P4 model all see 24 pins used. For using a new supply on an old 20pin board you simply slide the 4pin part off the main power connector.

alright cool, thanks :)

so, my mobo doesn't have a slot for the CPU2, and also has 1 slot for the ATX_12V where i put the CPU1 cable in..

one more question :P

I'm trying to connect my SATA HDD and CD/DVD burner, and I'm not quite sure what to do

I see the orange SATA slots on the mobo and I have 2 orange SATA cables that came with the mobo

The thing is, there are two SATA cables coming from the PSU, and there is two SATA marking slots on the cable, along with another slot that I think that's supposed to go into either the HDD or CD/DVD. Then I see some other cables on the PSU that are coming that says P7 and P11, and has on the same cable a slot that has 4 big holes.

The question is, what the hell are these for, but more importantly what the hell do I do?:confused::confused:

The red or there orange sata cables are the data cables that go between the board and the drive itself. The wider flat type 15pin connectors coming from the supply like anything else are for power. One information seen at Hitachi sums up what the cables look like and how they plug side by side into a sata drive.

Note the type of drive there also sees a molex type alternative since that is a Sata I not II model in the picture. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/cabling/serial.htm

For the older type you choose either sata or molex for power depending on what connectors the supply itself has. No worry there since I run the same model supply in the build here. :P
