connecting to internet with two laptops?

hi, my question might seem very stupid, but I'm completely ignorant about this particular subject:

Right now my partner and I have a pretty conventional internet connection set-up. We have a dsl modem from sympatico that plugs into my desktop PC, and a wireless router that she uses to connect her laptop (mac) in our apartment.

I am selling my desktop and will be buying a laptop (mac) in a week or two. One of the main reasons is for mobility, especially in the apartment. I don't want to have to use my computer in the same room all the time just because it needs to be physically connected to the modem...

I would like to know what types of configurations I can use so that neither laptops have to be physically connected to the sympatico modem. For instance, I think I read that the airport express can hook up to the modem, and then both laptops are connected via wireless. Or are there wireless modems (that are actually good)??

Thanks so much for any help!!

Your wireless router will suffice. Your new laptop should connect right to it. Or if I mis-read something, any typical wireless router would do fine. An AirPort is simply apple's version of a wireless router(802.11g).

oh yeah, I assume my setup will work fine, I was just wondering if I can connect to the wireless router without actually plugging into it physically with an ethernet cable.

I'm under the assumption that the "main" computer on the wireless network needs to be physically connected to the router. Maybe I'm wrong (I hope I'm wrong).

Thanks!!

Yep, your wrong, :D. The computer does not need to be physically connected for wireless to work.

You only need a wired connection to actually set up the router when you first set it up to work with your internet. Once its all set up you can unplug the wired pc and go all wireless if you want to.
