Theres probably a simple answer to this but I'm hopeless with computers. I have connected my LAN port on my P.C to the point in my room which is in turn connected to a wireless router downstairs (I'm assuming you can 'hardwire' a LAN card to a wireless router as my brothers both connect their XBoxes to the internet using an ethernet cable). But I can't even get the thing to search for networks. Using windows 7 operating system, ASUS P5G4IC-M LX Motherboard which has a PCIe Gigabit LAN controller. As I said I'm hopeles with computers so any input would be greatly appreciated.

i am confused pal but the lan card is it a wirless one.if its a wirless router u ve downstairs,there is no need for wired connection.if its not a wireless lan card,the get 1 as it will automatically browse and detect ur network down stairs.all the best.
As said you post is quite confusing. If you hook up your pc with an ethernet cable, there is need to search for wireless networks.
Explain better what you mean by that statement please. What does "to the point" mean?
