Connecting to the net takes ages

i recently had to unplug all of the cables from the back of my computer including my usb cable modem.
since i have put all of the cables back in it takes ages for my net connection to become active. anywhere in the region of a minute.

is there any way to speed up this process

Try reinstalling it...

do you have a network card in you computer? use it instead of the USB, for you internet connection, they sometimes go sour, but ethernet is built/designed for it,... has alot less problems.

i might try that, ive never has problems with my usb modem before
