connecting two computers through LAN

hey all

i have perfectly good working computer with xp at my cottage, i do not have internet access. i have another windows vista laptop that i can take up to my cottage. i was interested in setting up either a wired or wireless LAN between the two. on this computer i have bell highspeed coming into a modem, and then using an ethernet cable i get internet (i think it's an ethernet cable). i was wondering how i would do the setup at my cottage, do i buy a modem, and connect the two computers with ethernet cables, and do it that way, or do i buy a router and connect them with ethernet cables, or buy a wireless router and set it up that way.

if you don't have internet access (..no0b..) how do you expect to connect to connect to the internet??????????

That's not very nice, you don't need to call them a noob. He is right though, if you do not have internet access at your cottage then you are out of luck for getting onto the internet.

If you just want to network the 2 computers you can do that with a switch or even a hub and some ethernet cables and network cards.
 
You can't go on the internet without an internet connection, you could just get a router (for wireless) or a switch, or if your are really cheap a crossover cable
 
are you kidding me.... at no point in my post did i say i wanted to connect the computer at my cottage to the internet. midnight fox learn to read. all i said was, the current computer i am on. i have internet and i explained the way its setup with internet and lan.. i wanted to know if i had to have a similar connection meaning i needed a router with ethernet cables connecting the computers to get lan, NOT INTERNET at the cottage. all you guys seriously jumped the gun here. if you read it properly you would see that i said "i was interested in setting up either a wired or wireless LAN between the two"

you guys make me sound like i was born yesterday
anyways i ended up just buying a router and doing it how i thought it was, i just wanted some confirmation on it to see if i was going to set it up properly..

Are you sure about that????? Maybe you can't read. You should stick to skateboards instead of computers.

read what that says, i was interested in setting up either a wired or wireless LOCAL AREA CONNECTION between the 2 computers meaning the one that works up there which is the xp, and the laptop i want to connect to it up there.. in my post i said "that i can take up there" meaning im going to have both computers in the same room.. i did not say internet between them, i said lan. i realise i may have been confusing but i did not say i wanted an internet connection network at my cottage at any point midnight fox, and by the way, what is wrong with you for calling me a noob, then saying maybe i should stick to skateboards instead of computers, i came here for help..and you call me a noob when in fact you were completely wrong, you figured i wanted to connect to the internet with out an internet connection.. when i did not say that at all. so stop being so fast to reply, maybe reading things twice would help you out more in life..
