connecting two routers

i've got a wireless router running internet from the dsl modem upstairs. Instead of going out and getting a wireless network card, i'm wondering how to set up another router i have laying as a network device. This way i can connect to the internet on a desktop downstairs through the second wireless router :)

anyone here of anything like this?

thanks

Depends on the wireless router, some have the ability to be setup as a wireless bridge, which is just a point-to-point setup. What wireless router do you have?

i hate leaving my threads unanswered, so here are two options to do it.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/
http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

these are two open source firmware builds that support bridge & client mode. bridge mode meaning that the secondary router is transparent, as far as the computer is concerned it is connected directly to the primary source. Client meaning the computer uses the router like a NIC card. These are both jawesome cus you can buy a 60 dollar router and use it on 4 (relatively close) computers in stead of buying 4 50$ network cards for all of your desktops!

unfortunately the two routers i have aren't supported under these firmwares but i would definitely be sure to check out the compatibility lists before buying you're next router! i believe these firmwares allow the user to boost power so you can get better performance from your hardware, along with alot of other cool options.
