Connection Going Down (Linksys BEFSR41 Router)

Every hour or so my connection goes down. The connection stops on "Aquiring network address" but when i restart my computer the connection comes back on. I have the router pluged into a cable modem and two computers plugged into the router. When the connection goes down it wont even let me get into the routers settings from internet explorer (http://192.168.1.1).

Does anyone else have this router with the same problem or know how I can get around it?

I have downgraded the firmware for the router to work with Counter-Strike Source.

Details:

Router: Linksys BEFSR41
Version: 2.0
Firmware: 1.45.7
ISP: Virgin Media
OS: Windows XP x64 Edition

How old is it?
i had the same router, same thing happened, turned out it was on its way out.
I picked up a new one
Works fine
Updateing the firmware is the only thing i can see
And check how often it release's the information in the routers config

Are there any orange colour lights on the router?
There were on mine when it was dieing.

It sounds like your gona have to invest into another router

are you running any torrent programs if you are linksys routers dont like it and it tends to brick them.

That is very true, Linksys will screw with anything like that, especially when you configure the firewall and later need to share files and forget:rolleyes:.

I sent some friends to Office Depot to pick-up a router for me(I was sick), I was pushing for a Netgear RP614(for a biz). They called me and the Salesperson had told them that the LinkSys WRT54G was better(BS!!!). They then proceeded to put the salesperson on the phone and allow him to tell me why it was better. I asked him what protocols it supported and he lost his breath. I still didn't get the Netgear I wanted, because of that 'pecker-head'.

If I update the routers firmware it will not allow me to play Counter-Strike: Source.

The router I bought from ebay so I have no idea how old it is.

And yes, there are orange lights on the router. Link and Act are on green and Diag is on orange.

And I do run torrent programs yes. But to keep this router does it mean I need to stop using torrents and playing games?? if that is the case I might need to buy a new one.

you can run torrents but linksys dont like it and it is a good idea to disconnect the router when running torrent or to turn the router of for 30 sec after running torrent to refresh it

I have turned off torrent programs and still the connection goes down after an hour or so sometimes even 10 minutes.

I do not have to restart the computers, if i leave them for 5 minutes the connection comes back on :(
