connection icon on login slow to appear

When windows xp home logs in the internet connection icon in the system tray doesnt appear for at least 45 seconds. It used to be almost instant. I have other background apps and they have to wait until after it appears before they startup. Also when i try to access My Computer before it has appeared i see the loading cursor and in view -> arrange icons by -> "show in groups" has been unchecked.

Does anybody know how to make the connection status icon appear in the system tray instantly on login?

This actually doesnt have anything to do with the internet...you might try asking in the operating systems section or something by asking the mods to move this.

I'd say its because you have too many things loading, and because you have a celeron processor. (I hate those!!!!)

Anyways, cut down on your startup programs by goin to start-->run-->msconfig and goin to the startup tab and unchecking things you dont need.
