Connection lost between Modem and Router

Hello,
I am new to this forum. Here is my question:
I have a linksys BEFSR41 ver 3 wired router. I connect two PC's and my xbox to it all wired connections (yes i do have cables all over my house). My modem is supplied by Videotron model Arris (supports telephone, cable tv and internet from one box). My problem is that every night and sometimes during the day i lose internet connection. The only way to fix it is by unplugging my router, resting the modem and then replugging the router. I do this about twice a day. I have tried updating the router firmware, changed my modem with my ISP provider and set the factory defaults on my router. I know my router is somewhat old but is there something i could do before having to replace my router?

You know, I remember having a similar problem with our old Linksys wired router. I beleive the problem ended up being with our ISP. Basically the modem would disconnect. It was a very breif disconnection, but something would cause the router to act up. We got another router that actually had a "connected" light on it, and I remember seeing it go off on occasion.

Since you have wires run, it shouldn't be too hard to just switch over to the modem(bypassing the router) Maybe try this for a day and see if you continue to have any problems. Keep a close eye out for any lapses in the internet; anytime it might be going down even for a brief period.

I had this problem with my own BEFSR41 that I bought in April.
Two weeks ago I fixed it by going into Windows TCP/IP Properties on each PC and setting a static IP, Default Gateway, and the ISP's DNS server IPs.
Then I entered the router setup and enabled DHCP. Haven't had to reboot since.

ahh, the BEFSR41.

i had that for a month or two when my old router broke. its not too good of a router. I'll even go so far as to say that that problem probably isen't your modem, its the router.

i was using it on a network that had 3PCs on it. one was a game server and another was my gaming pc that often uses the utorrent client. once or twice a day, the router would drop the internet connection and reboot. sometimes it would drop the connection and i'd have to manually reboot it.

it's like the router 'crashes' from all the traffic.

if you goto Newegg's reviews of it, about 1/3 to 1/2 the reviews report connection problems.
