Arrgggh!!!
One day it's working next day, nope!
XP desktop, hardwired not getting to net.
2 laptops in house which can connect via wireless or hard wired.

DHCP service is started and card is working (I think). I uninstalled card and reinstalled.
(rebooting numerous times in between)

tried releasing/reneewing via ipconfig
ipconfig has DNS suffix as 'HOME'
same as laptop

ping a name and error
ping an address and it's intermittent (2 out of 4 errors)
but tried ip address in browser address bar and errors out

Ran virus scan - nothing
reloaded both firefox and IE

( I also tried a static DNS but not sure if I did that correctly or if it should work)

any ideas for next step besides reloading OS?

TIA

When you do a release renew do you get a new address okay? What about your DNS, if you do a "ifconfig -all" what comes up as your DNS address? Also when you tried to assign a static DNS what did you do?

connectivity

Thanks for response and sorry it took so long to reply . . .

Did not get a new address when I renew'd
DNS that comes up is the router, so that must be working (it is on laptops)

and I must have had a bad DNS address because is didn't work on a know good machine.

It appears it is a very slow connection.

I disabled the card and bought a wireless USB adapter.

Now the problem is that is not working. It shows connection as excellent.

This is my bro's machine, I've been doing this long distance.
I'm punting, he's taking it in!

Thanks for assisance

Just to clear...
So you bought a USB wired connection and disabled the built in wired card?

Have you tried unplugging the router and waiting about a minute and then plugging the power back in. If you can't renew the IP address it could be the DHCP server on the router stopped functioning for wired connections.

Hmmm.... DNS problem is usually on your router side as DNS isn't necessary to enter into PS3. Think maybe you've not connected to yr router to begin with.

Do you hv WEP/WPA (security password) on in yr router? If so, u need to enter the password into yr PS3.
