Hi, I am considering buying a Megaspeed Ati Radeo 9600XT but I only have a 240W power supply, would this be enough for this type of graphics card?

My computer details:
CPU - Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 800-MHz Front Side Bus, 512KB L2 cache with HyperThread
Power Supply - 240W ATX Power Supply – PFC with in 240V mode (115v/230V line switch)
Memory - 512 DDR RAM (333Mhz)
AGP - 1 AGP 8x, 1.5V

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help, if there is any problems with this card, please tell me!

Thanks for the site, it has given me alot of useful information about Power Supplies and roughly the amount I have to pay if I want to replace it. I live in australia which has a different voltage and frequency so I don't know whether it would be 100% correct over here in australia. But it has proven very useful.

I have reviewed this site: http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
and it evualates the minimum power supply wattage for your system depending on what hard drives and cd-rom drives you have. It says that a Geforce MX 440 (which I currently have) requires a max of 30 watts, and my computer runs fine without any restarts or freezes, while the one I wish to purchase (the ATI Radeon 9600 XT) requires 40 watts. Would this 10 watt incriment really do much damage? If I tried it with my current PSU and failed, would my computer be at risk of any damage or would the card be at risk of any damage? Or Should I just purchase a higher wattaged PSU??? I am a bit povo (because I am only 16) and don't really want to spend that much, but if it means that it may be a potential risk to my system, it would be logical to increase my wattage.

Would be greatly appreciated if someone could help!

If the current PSU fails, anything can happen during that failure (generally speaking it just kills itself and yer computer cant turn on until you get a new psu). If you indeed want to upgrade the psu have a look at PSU 101.

Thanx for the feedback, hope the worst does not happen and it stuffs up my comp because I have ordered it and it's on its way (the video card). I'll try it and hopefully if it fails i can claim in on warranty because the site says a minimun of 250Watts, so all should be fine. One again, thanx for the help
