Console gamer moving on

Hey guys, new member here

I was wondering if you could help me out. I've been a console gamer for the better part of my life, however I've decided to move onto PC gaming, mostly due to the fact that I'm sick of playing scaled down games.

So my question is: should I look into building my own PC without any prior experience or just get a prebuilt tower and upgrade it as I go? My budget is somewhat low, about 600AUD :(

The new generation of consoles are not that far away from an average gaming pc.

The overall quality is down to more than just the platform you play on, you can have a great gaming pc, but connect it to a poor or average screen and the quality will be limited by the screen.

Most people only mention fps for gaming especially pc gamers, personally i would rather have good quality 1080p @ 30fps than average quality @60fps

I do both console and pc gaming and find pc gaming to be more hassle and expensive, it used to be you built an expensive gaming pc for better quality, but were some what compensated with cheaper games, now most new games are the same price on pc as on console.

If you are on a budget, building it yourself is the best way to get the most bang for your buck.

Hi, as mentioned above its far better to build the machine yourself. you will get better value that way. A pc is not hard to build at all. the parts list with pretty good specs that would play games at 1080p such as battlefield 4 etc. i would go AMD if you can and have a tight budget, you will get better value on both cpus and gpus on a low budget.

Hey, thanks a lot for the constructive replies, glad to be a part of the community here :)

The AMD APU build looks very promising. I think this is something I should go for. I already have the peripherals (except good speakers - a future investment), so I expect to spend that money on the tower exclusively.

Now I have one more question, I see that everyone here is generally opposed to the idea of buying a prebuilt PC and I can see why, however I can't help but get curious when I see such options. What's the deal with the price? Are the components outdated or just plain bad?

Thanks for taking your time here :D

to be honest the AMD apu's are not very good in terms of graphical performance. The cpu itself is ok but the gpu (on die) on battlefield 4 you will be looking to get around 30+ fps on medium settings, which is pretty bad. its equivalent is r7 240/250. In terms of the way the game looks you would be better sticking with a console as you wouldnt notice anything better looking at both of them as for a comfortable 60fps experience youd be playing at low-medium graphics.

To be honest id stick with a good AMD quad/six core and a good AMD GPU i.e 270x/280/280x or better. save up and get something you will noticeably enjoy.

not to mention the cpu is $170...

Im just trying to do the best for him that I can, but your right, its not an ideal build for gaming. At that prive point, its hard to get better
