if i have a computer monitor with a vga and dvi input, is there any way to connect say an xbox or a ps2?
 
Actually, the card would have VGA and DVI output as the card is outputting the signal to the monitor. If there is no S-Video input on the card, your best alternative would be to get a cheap TV-Tuner card which would have a coax input.
 
The problem with that is that you're apparently converting RCA/SVHS to VGA, thus loosing a good bit of quality. What you really need is to find a "VGA Box" of sorts for your console, if they are produced. Well...this is assuming it actually displays as VGA and isnt simply converted like that above device seems to be...
 
Seems like a lot to pay just to play games on a monitor... like I said, I'd go with a TV Tuner... then you could record you gaming sessions. :P
 
Batton, I've been trying to get my xbox 360 hooked up to my x1900aiw for like a month now, as much as Id love to say that I've succeeded...I haven't. Your best bet (im my opinion) would be to get a vga converter and a kvm switch.
 
i guess it would just be a better idea not to go forward with this project :( since i dont want to blow 700+ on a readily compatible monitor

what i still dont understand is why havent lcd monitors and tv's been merged so that one can be easily used for either function?

They have been... many (or even most) new TVs now come with a VGA or DVI input, but computer monitors rarely have anything other than VGA or DVI... probably because more money can be made selling cheap monitors and expensive TVs.
 
yeah, the tv's are hell for price and seem to have many more with crappy picture. speaking of tv picture... isnt the picture (on lcd tv's) still not practical to use as a monitor?
 
i use my lcd comp monitor to play my 360. i use the proper microsoft vga cable. the picture is so much better at 1280x1024 then my old tv
