contrast ratio

I was looking at flat pannel lcd monitors and saw contrast ratio their. i saw some with 600:1 and some with 700:1. which is better and what does contrast ratio mean?

i think 700:1 would be better and i think contrast ratio is the size it which displays images on the screen

contrast ratio is the comparison of the brightest (700 or 600) to the darkest (1) images a display can produce. obviously, higher number, in ur case 700, is better. u can really see the difference if u go to a store like best buy and look at the monitor side by side with different ratio contrasts.
