Guys,

A recent conversation with a mate got me curious about a couple of hardware issues that seem to be similar.

I'm running an I7 3960x on a X79S-UP5 mobo and for some reason the majority of my USB at the back do not function I have recently updated all my drivers and my device manager says they raring to go but when I try to connect a USB to the back - well nothing happens, no plug in or unplug sounds, no message indicating something has been connected....my friend get no messages.

Another weird one is after clicking on the windows Icon I do not get the search function at the bottom of the drop down menu, I have tried reinstalling windows 7....I have tried surfing the net to resolve these issues but so far anything out there seems not to work.
Any thoughts???

Thanks

It's probably a good idea to just reinstall Windows. Are you sure the USB ports all work correctly, it's not just Windows? If you plug in a keyboard to one of the messed up USB ports, does it work in the BIOS?

Thank PCunicorn, your responce fired another neuron in the old grey matter but despite getting the latest downloads, unpacking it and rebooting the computer I am still having problems with the USB's but while fiddling around I noted it was only the USB 3's that aren't working......maybe I'm going about it the wrong way because I am going to be updating the operating system soon to 8.1

Thanks again
