Hi!
I'm Alted, how are you guys? So i purchased a 13.3 inch macbook pro core i7 at around christmas time 2011, which ran me about $1600
( -_-). Blinded by apples style, i really enjoyed using it. However, as i started to play more computer games, like league of legends and minecraft, i started to find that many games i wanted to play weren't available on the mac ex. Arma II (I play league of legends using a mac client, it runs moderatly well on my macbook). Its been starting to bug me lately how superior all PCs are to macs. I had the evil idea to break apples grasp on my balls, and sell this aluminum piece of junk for a nice gaming pc.

I was thinking of getting a custom built one, but i really know nothing about computers in general. I was hoping i could get some advice, i mean a guide, as to what parts to buy?

I also was wonder how much i'd be able to get out of the macbook? its in fairly good condition, no huge marks or broken parts.

I was thinking that i'd be able to get $700 at least, which would make my budget around $900

tl;dr

Have $900 dollars to switch from mac to pc, what should i get, where should i buy it, and should i build it my self or not?

What if I told you..... with that $1,600 you could've bought a very nice Windows PC Laptop and run almost any games with no lag issues? :D

Anyways, Asus, Samsung are pretty nice with their Ultrabooks (not for gaming), but any laptops with a decent dedicated GPU like GTX 600 series or even the Radeon 6000+ series will do just fine.

Did you have any laptops in mind?

I was thinking of getting a desk top actually. Mainly because of the price, and the fact that all the gaming i do, i do on my desk anyway. I have absolutely no computers in mind, i just don't want one thats to expensive. I've been doing a little research, but it all seems pretty complicated. And yes, i really wish i hadn't wasted that 1600 on a mac :(

Oh my god, with 1600 you could have gone a freakin' world simulator pc. I kinda think that PC desktop + apple laptop it's not a bad ideea, since PC can do hard labour, and you can keep doing innocent things on that good looking apple thingy.

I actually want to sell the macbook, and by a PC desktop gaming computer. When i go to college i can just buy a cheap netbook anyway, so i really don't want this macbook.

Your macbook will sell above $1000, easy. They hold their value.

I'm very very glad to see you say that. Where would i sell such a device though? It seems like i wouldn't get maximum profit on ebay, and thats the only place i could think of selling it.

with $1200 you can buy a top-end gaming laptop with all the best features.

but on mac that will get you the bare minimum.

its a no-brainer, but most Mac users don't use their brains, that's why they have a mac.

Craigslsit is a good place to start. Put your price higher than you want so others will try to talk you down to a level you want to sell it at.

Even though i'm insulting myself in saying it, i completely know what you mean. I feel like a complete fool for getting it in the first place. I'm only 17, and 1600 dollars was hard for me to collect. Really hard. It was the stupidest decision of my life (so far).

Don't be so upset. It's not a big waste, and it's a big lesson learned. Mac's are not bad computers. and i think they look good. They're just better for people who do trivial things on them, like facebooking, and design, and this kind of things that require one propperly made program and that's it. I'm a webdesigner, and i'd like to try out a mac. Still, as the users above me pointed out, with the money you get by selling the mac, you get a kick-a$$ pc. Good luck with your transactions . and as claptonman said it, it's way better to fix the price higher, and then drop it, so people will feel like they fooled you down on the price, and they buy it at your intended price hapily.

Thanks for the input, I'm gonna try my luck at selling it this week, and then i suppose i'll need to find someone who can throw together a build for me. I don't trust everything i see on the internet nowadays, and when making such a big purchase i'd like to be thorough

Don't forget to install Linux on your computer while you're at it. Then you can go completely to the awesome side of computing :D
