Converting a P4 800MHz FSB to 1066MHz FSB

Hi all,

Some of the new Intel 915/925 chipsets support DDR and DDR2. The next round of Intel processors is supposed to be 800Mz FSB Pentium 6xx and the one after that Smithfield (dual core) on an 800MHz FSB. I think that they are staying with the 800MHz to sell more 915/925 mobos.

My question is, when they go to 1066MHz FSB processors, if you have an 800MHz mobo that supports DDR2, can you overclock the FSB to 266Mhz and potentially run a processor that supports 1066Mhz FSB (like P4EE 3.73)? As DDR2 runns at 533MHz(x2) can you convert your 800MHz mobo to 1066MHz?

Good OC 915 boards

I found another article on this here. It seems from this review that the ASUS P5GD2 (Deluxe/Premium) and the MSI Neo2 Platinum allow the FSB to be overclocked up to 266MHz so that you can run the FSB in synch with DDR2.

Problem is that these boards only support DDR2 - which is still really expensive in Australia. I would still like to see the P4EE 3.73 (1066MHz) running on one of the 915 boards when overclocked - as they are designed to run at 800MHz.

My question is, when they go to 1066MHz FSB processors
1. The BUS speed is 1066MHz :) (minor technicalty but one nonetheless)
2. What do you mean "when"? They are already out

If you're lucky, sure.

They use CPU unlock in their mobos to unlock the CPU multiplier. Very intersting...
Only works on 550s and up.

1. No such chip as the P4EE-3.73
2. Why? 1066 was a flop
