Converting movie into audio

Is there any way to convert a movie (.avi) to an audio file (preferrably mp3 or wma but any will do)? I just want the audio of it.

there's quite a few programs that will do it, but I don't know of any freeware ones

I only have Nero Startsmart. I don't think that works.

You should be able rip the audio using Nandub. Just set the audio to direct stream processing and File>>Save WAV.
