Cooling fan/ CPU problem?

Hi all.

New to the site, but looks like a good place for info.

Here is my situation:

I am starting to get more into computers, both on the software and hardware side. I have a one year old HP Pavilion a6313w desktop with an AMD 2.88 ghz processor, 4 gb Ram, Vista Home Premium 32bit, and just a few basic other things. I replaced the original CPU fan about 8 months ago as the old one was making noise and being a pain. I bought a Thermaltake R1 cooling fan to replace it and all seemed well. The only problem was that if I shut the pc completely down, and tried to turn it back on, the fan would not start without a finger spin by me and the pc would shut itself down so as not to overheat. A nuisance, but not really a huge issue as the fan worked fine. I decided today to clean all the dust out of the case. After I did that, I removed the fan to make sure there was no dust bunnies left behind it. Unfortunately, the CPU stuck to the back of the fan and popped right out of it's socket. I replaced it, locked it in, and replaced the fan. When I plugged all of the cables back in, the pc immediately started itself as soon as I plugged the power cable in. Never done that before. Also it now beeps and I have no video. The beeps are one short one followed by one long one, a pause, and it repeats. I did some research on here and the net, but can't find anything specific to my problem. What happened and how do I fix it??

The CPU shouldn't pop off like that. I'm not too familiar with AMD's socket system but isn't there some sort of lever that keeps the CPU in place? Check on that and see if it's correctly in place.
 
I reinstalled the processor and made sure it was pushed in all the way and locked down with the little bar and it stayed in after that.
 
No other suggestions from anybody? My computer is very vital to my business and projects I do at home. I can't get all my work done from my iPod Touch internet.

Do I need a new motherboard or CPU?
How do I test the mobo? I can't get to the BIOS screen or any screen.
 
You need to take the CPU back out and really look at all the pins on the back. Make sure none is bent or, when it pulled out of the socket none of the pins broke off and are stuck in the socket.
