i just got a amd 64+ 3500 athlon with a msi k8n neo platinum mobo. i have this case http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=93703 and no additional cooling. should i invest in a new/better/ extra fan, and if yes where do i put the extra fan. am i at risk if i leave it?

this should be in cooling and case modding section.
it depends how much you are going to be doing with the comp. i would fill both the fan slots on the case, with appropriate fans, to be safe though.

well since u bought a 3400 it seems like ur going to be doing some gaming on ur comp so u should get a cooling system. its never bad to and there not that expensive and u can put them on pretty easy and it insures longer life for ur cpu

Depends on what you're doing with the system .. definitely worth the investment though. Two fans come to mind, the Thermaltake Venus12 or the Thermaltake Silentboost K8
