How can you get your own copyright on Cd's or MP3's.. Is it possibely..????

This isnt for me though im still wondering how to do it myself...

My Friend has created/ Mixed his own Songs and wants them protected so nobody can have them when they buy the CD.....

Thanks

This is getting into a lot of legal stuff, but here goes. I believe that most of the time all that you have to do is say that the items are copyrighted to you, and they should be. I'm not completely familiar with copyright law, but I think once you create something, then it is technically copyrighted so that no one else can use it without your permission. I would do a little Google search on copyright law, but from what I know, you just need to physically put on the item that it is copyrighted.

I think dciscouts is right. Copyrighting is different to patenting in that you don't have to go through a process. If you create something, and you mark it as being copyrighted, that is sufficient. If someone copies it anyway, then you can say it was copied with the foreknowledge of it being copyrighted. If you follow.

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Voila. Google r0x0rs!!
