Core 2 duo with ddr?

I am considering moving to a core 2 duo from my current fx-55 but i dont want to have to replace everything i have already bought.
This is my current system:
Coolermaster case with 2 120mm fans
gigabyte ga-k8nf-9 socket 939
amd FX-55 proc
4x512 crucial balistix ddr 400 pc3200 ram
2x250 seagate hardrive
1x 500 gb seagate
8800gts vid card
creative x-fi sound card
430 watt power supply
250 watt graphics card power supply

I realize that everything else should work but i just spent a decent amount of money on the ram and dont want to have to buy new ddr2 just to run a core 2 duo. Also i would really like it if the mobo not only supported ddr ram but also sli. Any suggestions?

the closest thing i can think of is the Asrock 775 Dual vsta

This board supports both PCI-e and AGP and has DDR and DDR2 support.

However it only has 2 DDR slots and 2 DDR2 slots and its not SLI enabled

Well thanks for the quick response. Thats what I thought I looked quite a bit through newegg and didnt see anything, so it looks like ill be sticking with the fx-55 for a while longer. How does the 55 compare to a mid range c2d? Is there a better 939 besides the FX-57 that i could gain a decent amount of performance?I just really dont want to have to upgrade the ram i just spent 300 bones on so i can run a c2d.

to be fair theres not a lot further to go from the FX-57 without spending such an amount that you would be able to upgrade to Core2 for less.

To give you an idea of performance range the FX-62 can be outdone by the E6600 so theres a huge difference between AMD's current line and Intels.

To be fair the FX-55 is still a pretty damn good CPU and with your current gfx card you should be playing games at high or a while yet. I would save the money and look towards a complete upgrade later in the year. By then AMD will have new stuff out and prices will no doubt have dropped again :)

cool thanks, thats prob what i was going to do anyway. I just really wanted this system to last for a while. But what can you do the tech market always changes so fast you cant have the best all the time. cheers

All you would need to replace is the RAM. If you get the Dual-VSTA, then you will be limiting your video card to PCI-E x4 speeds, which may limit performance.

I would spring a few hundred more and buy DDR2 RAM, then you can sell your DDR RAM.
