Core 2 Quad or i7?

Hello everybody, I have a bit of a dilemma and I could use some advice on this. I am about to build a computer for the first time and finally selected all the pieces. My computer will be mainly used for gaming.

This is what I final build will look like

However, I am kinda debating whether or not I should get an Intel i7 based pc instead...

This is my i7 Build

I chose dual channel ram over triple channel because according to all the reviews I have read, the triple channel rams gains are marginal at best for now, so no point spending all that extra money. Only thing that the i7 build does not have is the CPU cooler, newegg doesn't seem to have any good ones on the site.

If I go for the i7, is it too much of a hassle to build the computer and then later install the CPU cooler a week later when I receive it seeing as I will have to order it from some other site? Or is it best to just wait for all the pieces to be there?

On my Core 2 Quad build however, all the pieces have been out for a while and have been extensively tested and I know I am getting reliable pieces. The i7 parts would be more of a gamble since it just came out, but then again it is newer technology...

i7 is gonna be more expensive, and yeh its new and untested..

I'd probably recommend the core2 setup---only because of price and newness of the gear--ram, mobo, and cpu on the i7.

Yes, the i7 will be more expensive but only by 100 dollars. Since it is so close in pricing, that is not a concern for me as much as reliability.

Wait for better Core i7 parts to come out within the next year or so. That, or do a core 2 Quad build.

If the i7 build cost only $100 more, then get it

But it doesn't because the i7 mobos are 150-200$ more. Plus then you have to get ddr3 ram and tri-channel memory only helps bring up the price even more :) I think it's all worth it though since that's what everyone is going to be using in the next 2 years.

Most people tend to choose the Asus rampage or the higher end p45's for a high Oc'ing board which are in the same price range as some of the I7 boards. For some reason The Q9550/Asus rampage prices havent dropped liked they should have when the I7 was released ,which is why I am also thinking about a I7 system considering all its advantages

Price proportionally it is not rally equal, I can get a hi-end board for 100-150 I can get a i7 board for 200-300.
Hell infact! I could order the parts for you from newegg and charge you 500 dollars less then you normally would if you got it from your crappy sites and I could still make a couple hundred bucks.
