Researching a little for a friend. When is it going to come out to the public to buy? Is it worth the wait, or should they go ahead and buy Core Duo 1. Why is it considered that much better? Will it be very expensive?

Core 2 Duo came out on July 24. It is not that expensive, anywhere from $250-$1100
The MSRP per 1000 is actually ~$180-$1000. Obviously now retailers are charging more because of the high demand, however in a few weeks or months, the price will lower to the $180-$1000 or lower range.

oh ok cool :)

Oh, how come the dekstop chips aren't out yet, at least not on newegg either? You guys think he should wait to get the Core Duo 2 in hte Dell e1505 or go ahead and buy Core Duo 1 since the deals are great (750 off 1999).

Because newegg is being stupid, no they probably just couldn't get a hold of them, tigerdirect has them. It really depends on how much you want the laptop if you need it soon core 1 is what you are going to have to go with, if you can wait core 2 is a lot better, in fact it is the first true core chip. But even after the release of them (they are codenamed merom, conroe is the desktop codename) it still may be weeks or months before places like dell start using them, and at first it may be in only the high end laptops. Its really up to you, but if you can wait I would.
