Core Duo vs Core 2 Duo vs Core Solo

no-clue

Can someone explain to me what are the differences please. Which one is more powerful....better yet can someone put them in order of power from least powerful to most powerful.

Thanks in advance

I got a quick question.
I'm thinking about buying a new comp. One has the option of 1 -2.13 Ghz Core 2 Duo -- 1066 FSB
and the other has 2 Dual Core Intel Xeon @ 2.00 Ghz -

The first pc is resonably priced and the second is about quite a bit higher. Is Dual Core becoming old hardware? or would it be a wise investment to go with the Core 2

I'm going to be using the comps a main comp for graphic design, possible video editing & music editing. And some light gaming.

It's standard in the Mac Pro, I'm looking at... More than likely they will be switching to Core 2 Duo, so I might hold off...

I dunno, x86 I'd agree...but best architecture? There's some pretty good designs in the RISC department

Let's stick with currently the best x86 :)

Just in case anyone was wondering, a Core 2 has a larger die (more transistors), potentially faster FSB, potentially more L2 cache, 2 more stages in the pipeline, and additional simple decoder, more scheduler entries, more FP units, more SSE units, an additional ALU, and a bigger reorder buffer. As Omega said, it's basically a Core but on steriods.

yay, half of that is jibberish to me D=

btw, why x86? are the A64 processors also beeing called x86 processors? I thought the C2D were x64 too,.. whee,.. im confused now :o
