core i7 stock fans - any good??

does anyone have the new i7 920 that came with a fan?
is the fan any good?

i'm asking cause i can get a i7 920 for a bit cheaper WITHOUT a fan though and i'm pretty sure i've already read that most people get a different fan anyway, especially those that overclock. sound right?

and could u recommend a good fan (i have NO IDEA in this area) :(
have seen some zalman and arctic cooling freezer fans but they are not core i7 compatible :(

thanks in advance!!

The fan that comes with it is all right just like other stock fans.
I have the cooler master v8 which is amazing, the noctua's are good, and the true heat-sinks are amazing from what I've heard.

Best heatsinks for the price would be the Xigmatek S1283 dark knight, or if you wanna spend a little more the Xigmatek Thors Hammer with 2x Yate Loon High speed fans.

yup, u have sold me mate, that dark knight cooler looks awesome and has great reviews!!!

now, i can't get the actual 'dark knight' but can get the slighty older Xigmatek HDT-S1283.
so my ??? is, can i use that cooler on my LGA1366 MOBO (which is an asus p6t deluxe v2) or do i need to get the conversion kit of Xigmatek Crossbow I7361 for Core i7.

i can't believe a fan is holding up my new rig purchase, haha!

I never used mine. I actually used the plastic part to build a bracket to use with my vapochill once I have time.

TRUE120 is what I use

will this fan (noctua) or the Xigmatek S1283 dark knight fit into a COOLER MASTER 690 case?????

and how are we supposed to know something like this before we buy it????

It should fit into a coolermaster CM690, but you will need the crossbow retention bracket to use the orginal S1283 with i7;)
