If a motherboard supports core 2 will it also support a quad core processor, even if the manufacturer has not listed it on its specs?

Not all motherboards will. What one do you have?

If it's not listed on the manufacturers website as a supported CPU, then most likely it will not work.

mobo

well its because i am looking for a new motherboard and i wanted to know (since these mobos support 1066 fsb) if it would work with quad core, regardless of whether or not it was listed

Usually it will say what proccesors it can support. If not i think (dont take my word on it because i am not a hundred percent sure) you can just look at the Socket (i think) and if its LGA 775 then it will work with Core 2 and Quad Core. But make sure you run that buy other people here because i am not 100% sure of that.

All Core 2 Duo compatible motherboards support 1066FSB, generally if you want one with quad-core support, it would also support 1333Mhz FSB.

Again, if you tell us what motherboard it is then we can look, because if your just going by what Newegg or other site tells you, sometimes they dont list everything thats compatible.

i have one in mind:

Maybe you can help me figure out what mobo to get that has the features im looking for (around $80 max)

im looking for somethign with four slots of ram (4-8gb support), 2 PCI-E slots, Quad-core support (Im using a pentium D so it needs to support that too), more than 2 SATA ports, and if it had 2 IDE ports that would be nice, but not necessary

thanks

Ok that will run quad core but do you plan on having an extreme or semi extreme graphics card instead of an shared card with mobo? if so then you need a at least one PCI- 16x slot. i am assuming you probaly dont want a card because your only spending 80 bucks i could be wrong though

I want to game, ill prolly get two 8600 or something, its cheaper than getting one 8800 but ill start out with one, i want to leave the option for SLI open.

do you know if a 500W power supply is sufficient enough these days, im not too sure....
