Corei5 stock cooler...

The intel stock heatsink is a joke. get a nice aftermarket one, you'll be doing yourself a favour.

I think the problem with that cooler is it does not come with a fan but one should be used. Therefor the reviews have a hard time since results may vary. I am sure it would work fine. I tried a 3.3 OC on the cooler in my sig and it went to 65 under a load. I am 20 and 50 on stock speed. The stock cooler is very small.
 
It is really a pet peeve of mine that Intel provides their customers with cheap quality heatsinks. They also give those cheap pins and no screws to install them. Intel makes great central processing units but they do their customers a big disservice going cheap with the heatsinks.
 
whoa whoa guys. before we start bashing intel lets go over a couple of things

1. intel cpu's are the best in the world with the best features, best speeds, best stability, everything

2. the i7 stock cooler is top notch. intel can't give away aftermarket heatsinks for free. they need to make a profit and frankly giving away high quality coolers would drive up the cpu prices.

3. fear not. linus tech tips from youtube (yes he is annoying and his voice is disgustingly high pitched) shows off the NEW intel stock heatsink. from what I see it looks great and could be a good solution. but remember, most gamers and oc'ers don't use stock heatsinks anyway

well done, couldn't have said it better.

i however found that my 750 would OC to around 3.6ghz before i reached dangerous temperatures, and i mean over 65C, i'd pull the plug from the wall before i ever hit 80C! lol

LOL... I hit 75's at 4.2, but that's 1 hour of 100% load. Then again... no app will do that so I'm fine.
 
thanks gabe for completely sandbagging me. I was trying to make a point. For a stock cooler the i7's cooler WAS impressive. The new stock cooler looks great too. Remember there are people in this world who don't use their comps for gaming, don't overclock, and don't fiddle with their components. THAT is what stock coolers are for

What cooler do you have on your I5 to stay under 65c at 4.2ghz? My I5 750 with a TRUE would get to right around 80c with a TRUE at 4.2ghz.

There's nothing wrong with 80c core temp, I believe I read somewhere that nothing damaging is done until atleast 105c.

He is just tea bagging you with the truth.

Stock has always sucked period. There has never been stock that I have owned that even ran stock speeds all that great and its never going to change. Even Intel fails in the stock arena its a fact of life.
I about died laughing at my I5 stock....even it ran rather hot idle. I blame the push pins for part of it...they suck and Intel knows it. Id rather save $30 and just get the CPU.

Stock coolers was never made for overclocking/overvoltaging btw.. Just keep that in mind. Stock coolers are for stock speeds..
