Correct Temp?

Before I need to buy what may be an unnecessary VGA cooler, can a temp reading from the video card/ATI tray tools be incorrect or abnormally high? Here's what happened: Before, i used to get a temp avg. reading of my Saphire ATI x1600 Pro from ATi Tray Tools of 68 C. Then the idea struck me to take off the front panel of cooler for better heat dissapation (bad idea btw). Anyway, I ended off taking VGA cooler off and putting right back on without taking the front cover off. And what I found out too was it was sort of glued on and now that seal is broken. Now I get a temp of 95 C and rising. Is this temp wrong or should I get another VGA Cooler?

Look the 95 degree is not true because if that is the truth u wouldn't be writing about the problem simply coz ur vga card will be fried! even though if on best case the first reading is the current that the real temp is 65 and it's reading 95 u should get a vga cooler more heat more performance loss get a vga cooler to secure urself heat is the performance and stablitiy worest enemy!

Some cards can stand more heat than 95°C so it's not impossible but it's far from safe limits.

Hot, Hot, OMG, it's on fire!!!

Ya, I read on a post that temps can reach over 100 C without getting fried... probably not healthy... but I don't want to take that chance. The reason I'm asking is I don't want to go and spend $40 on a worth while cooler when I'm just getting an incorrect temp and whether just typing this is shortening its lifespan. Could it be like the thermometer... or whatever it's called, touching something that normally gets that hot or what? Anyway, I read that getting an after-market cooler is usually better and I've also read that this specific card tends to get hotter than others, so can anyone recomend any coolers that I can just go to the store, say PC-Club or Fry's and buy because I can't buy online.

well.... I opened t up again and arranged some of the silver... stuff.... ya forgot the name, anywho, I think it may have just been a bad temp becuz it's at 72 C now although it's still high.....
