Corrupted files

Ok so i just reformatted my harddrive with windows XP. then i go windows update and start updating. when i went to reset my computer it wouldnt load again and said a file was corrupted and i had to repair it. This is the 3rd time its happened this month. What do I do. my computer is fairly old (about 8 years.)

If you're getting corrupt files on the drive, my first guess would be a failing hard drive. Do you have another you could swap out and test the system?

No I dont have another hard drive but i do think its a problem with the hardware since it lasted a whole 2 minutes before something went wrong after a reformat.

Hmmm. Not necessarily. You could have bad RAM or a bad cable. And yes, it's possible the drive itself is roached. I would check the other things first before you scrap it though.
