Corsair H70 vs Coolermaster Hyper 212+

Hey guys

Ive got a Hyper 212+, and the performance is pretty good, about 29 degrees idle, and 52 load.

Now summer has hit, and its hit hard, with temps like 35 degrees celsuis (but in south africa, especially johannesburg, we at a high altitude, so thats very dry, and just plain heat) and my temps have gone up to 37 idle and about 60 load.

This has made me consider water cooling (Just know i do know a proper water cooling system is better, but also way more expensive)

so my question is this, between the CM 212+ and the H70, which is better? and as a baseline, a better air cooler like a TRUE vs the H70?

If i get any cooler, its going to have dual fans. my current setup does, and that will be transferred to the next cooler.

Thanks guys

Well both air and water are dependant on ambient temp and things like airflow setup. What fans do you currently have on your 212+? I have a H60, I like it a lot more than I did my Hyper TX3 cooler. Thermal paste also comes into play. You using your own stuff or whatever comes with the cooler? I'd go with the H80. Besides the H100, it's the best of bunch and it's still a 120mm radiator (albeit thicker). Also depends on how much this stuff costs in South Africa. Have fun choosing :)

35c isn't bad for idle temps. Like Linkin said, better thermal paste might help. I'm using Arctic Silver 5 and its works great. Might look at getting a better fan for the 212+, plus another one pulling heat away and out of the case.

Im Using Arctic Cooling MX-4. I Had AS5, and it did have better performance (on load like 2 degrees less, idle was the same), but i wanted to try another TIM and MX-4 was next on the list. Plus i like that its not conductive. I Did lose my AS5 so i just stuck with MX-4, as AS5 is hard to come around.

I have the stock 212+ fan mounted, and a normal Coolermaster LED fan. not the highest performance setup, but its quiet, seeing as my rear exhaust fan, and 2 front intake fans are 90CFM Coolermaster fans, a lot of air is pushed, and alot of noise is made. I also have the top of the 2 front intake fans on an empty HDD 5.25 to 3.5 bay, so clean undisturbed air goes straight to the intake of the CPU, and a little to the top of the rear exposed fan on my card (i have the 1st revision GTX295). The bottom one blows air over 2 HDD and the top 2 bays are empty so air goes to the GPU fan. Ive spent a long time on fan configs.

so everything is good. I know water cooling depends on ambient, as you cant drop the water to below ambient temperatures. But im saying if i can get my Load to 50 degrees on a really hot day, ill be over the moon.

Also as the water cooling wont radiate heat, it will make my case cooler. i can maybe even restructure the fans to get better cooling all round, like make the top fans intake now, instead of exhaust. Obviously it will be trial and error, but well see
