corsair psu fan not working?

I bought a GS 700 from best buy and fan didnt work. Exchanged it for a GS 800 and fan didnt spin neither. I talked to a guy from geek squad which obviously i wasted my time with said its one of those heat detecting psu that turn played on the fan which i believe total bullshit. Played battlefield 3 and obviously a game like that makes a lot of heat and on ultra and fan didnt spin. So now i think its faulty. Everything is connected correctly and tried different wall sockets and psu doesnt have a volt switch so cant change it. What can i do?

The heat generated by other components does not matter so much. It will come on when the PSU internals reach a certain temperature.

If BF3 did not reach that temperature, then take it back and exchange it. But try it for at least an hour before you call BS on it.

Really? Was playing it for about an hour and a half probably and still didnt turn on? I checked the temp and it was in the 90's.

1. The fan turning on only at certain temperatures is not BS. It is there to reduce noise and to save (a little) power.

2. Playing games will cause your CPU and GPU to heat up. Whilst your PSU does have more load and will be producing more heat, it will not be even close to the same as GPU idle vs GPU under load

3. The heat generated by the CPU and GPU will not get vented straight into the PSU, it will be exhausted. The case has airflow and it designed to expel heat, so the system won't just keep getting hotter and hotter, under load it will reach a maximum temperature.

4. Depending on what you are running, the load could be extremely low, so you have very little heat being generated, or it could be very high load, at which point I would be worrying about the fan not coming on. With a 700W or your now 800W unit though, we are talking crossfired 7970's + quad core CPU all overclocked, several hard drives and several fans for it to be under heavy load

5. What were you using to read the temperatures? The temperature you were looking at was most likely the graphics card. afaik, no Corsair PSU has temperature sensors, so you won't be seeing the temperatures. I would imagine the protection would be kicking in before 90 degrees anyway and shut the power off completely

Not pretty sure whats hot and cold tenp for computer but i was using the temperature meter from that new Razer game booster that razer is making. Pretty sure its not accurate but yea. And sorry didnt know that psu do that cause i was always told that they have to be running or else it be bad. And also running 8 fans so idk if thats helping it be cool.
