Could a burner get overworked?

I'm using my laptop (the one in the sig) to burn CDs and DVDs. Could the burner get overworked? Burning takes quite some time (30 mins for DVDs, 7 mins for CDs) and of course the burner gets hot. Is there a recommended "rate" of burning? I'm not talking 8x or 52x but like burning a new CD after a "rest period" of 10 mins or something, or is it OK to burn lots of CDs in sequence?

I'm asking because I want to maximize the life of my laptop (too poor to buy something else in a while :( ) I'm also looking for some preventive measures against hardware disasters so if you know anything on how to take care of a laptop, suggestions are welcome ;)

I've read that using a burner takes a lot of juice and makes a lot of heat. I'd recommend ten minutes rest between discs in a laptop.

It should be fine running back to back. But of course any major stress on any component (whether it's desktop or laptop), will eventually lower the life of that component.

I recommend u to buy a cheap desktop just for burning and to go on-line so that way ur laptop will really last for a long time.

Buy an external burner. :)

i disagree, how much burning can you be doing, if it were for major projects, then you would be getting a burner tower. so you could burn fast, and multiple copies. yes as laptop extreme said. it will lower the life of your burner. but what is the point of having a burner if you do not use it.

your burner will most likely last longer than you intend to use the laptop. you might upgrade in a few years

He said he doesn't/won't have money, hence the need to preserve his laptop. As for the burner, just use common sense. Don't burn 5 DVD's in a row, give it a while to cool down. So, when the burn is done with a dvd/cd, wait til it's cool to the touch, and then burn again.
