I know people that have done it. I've done it myself several times. My friend used to have outrageously huge ones on wheels. They had to be almost 4 feet tall and about three feet deep. They would fit an insane amount of SCSI removable harddrives, all the way down the front of them. The I/O was on top of the cases. They were nuts.

You can't use a 1U or 2U rack mount server case though. You would have to use a 4U.
