Hi,

I am trying to install itunes + Quicktime so I can download tunes to my ipod. It almost completes the installation and then I get this message:

Could not open key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your supposrt personnel.

Anyone even understand that? I don't see what access I would need - it's my home pc...

I would say that your not on an administrator account. I had almost the same thing happen when I was installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (it wrecked the PC to:D ). Are you using Windows or Mac? I don't know much about Mac, but if it's windows you have to use the admin's user account. Hope thise helps.

its a pc because of the key he listed out.... yah if you have vista try right clicking run as admin... or in xp run in an admin privileged account..

We've got windows xp. And I am an adminstrator. I don't know much about computers but it doesn't seem right for me not to have sufficient access....

You will have to find what username is an administrator username and then go to user settings (Click Start Menu and then click the user's picture) and then go
to the settings of your username and tell the PC to change your account to an administrator account. That ought to work.

I already am an administrator. When we bought this computer me and my husband both put ourselves as administrators and there's one guest account with limited access that we never use.
I just double checked just in case - I am admin...

OMG it worked! I don't know why - the link you sent me was the same as the first one I used because thats the asme one that came with the ipod - I didn't think it would work this time thats why I was trying a different one before... I only did one thing different - last time, right at the end it asked me if I wanted to use itunes as my default... (something? I can't remember) .. media player maybe? Something like that. Anyway, last time I said no, so this time I said yes. Maybe it has nothing to do with it but who cares - it works!

thanks!!!
