Counter Strike Source FPS Problem

Hi, I'm having some issues with FPS on CS:S. I am getting a average of 100.38FPS on the benchmark test, but when I join or make a server the FPS always goes down to like 20 - 40 for some reason. So I did the obvious thing and ran it at minimum quality - still 20-40 fps, then I ran it at 1920x1080 x4AA, still 20-40 FPS, however 100fps on the bechmark test.

I am thinking its the players that slow it down, because on the benchmark test no players are shown and it doesn't turn choppy.

Help please? :)

How is your internet connection? I'm guessing the benchmark test isn't done online, maybe its the servers you're connecting to. Does it give you a ping?

I just tested my internet connection and its 41 ping 12.20mbps so there should be no problem, and also even when im playing with bots my fps drops :/

Other players on the server don't really have much impact on your personal FPS. How are you determining the FPS you're getting? I think typing "net_graph 1" into console is the most accurate way. Is it visibly choppy or are you just getting lower fps than on the benchmark?

Can you see a difference in quality when you change the settings (just to make sure that the settings are being applied)

You can always try right clicking CS:S in your library and going to Local Files tab and Verifying Integrity of Cache and Defraging Cache. That'll sometimes help with minor hiccups.

I'm using net_graph 1 to see the fps, and it is visibly choppy and less responsive the more people/bots join the game
