I have Counter Strike, and I need to know the CD key I used to install it.... where can it be found. I tried following some things on the internet I searched up, but they were confusing....

Anyone know how please post.
 
you only need the cd key once. once youve registered the key that comes on the the back of the cd case, you dont need it anymore

You had to have steam to play it in the first place though, it comes with the game CD.

Anyhow as elmarcorulz said you only need it to register the game the first time.
 
You guys dont get it... I installed it with the CD long before Steam existed. When I got steam it automatically got the Counter Strike CD and put it in Steam. I made a new Steam account, and to add a product, I need the CD key. Is it findable in the Counter Strike/Valve/Steam folders? I lost the case long time ago.
 
heres a little algebra: (It's not a serial)
say 3 is the third letter of the alphabet e.g 5 = E

dont post links for illegal cracks and serials. It wont even work, since each key can only be used once.

First of all, if your game is already on a steam account, you cant add it it a new one, it wont let you.

Pretty sure your still giving a serial away here, which will lead to you being banned.
 
How does that stupid serial help me? I need to know what the CD key is I used to install Counter-Strike.

I bought Counter-Strike on CD.
I installed it a long time ago, lost case.
STEAM DIDNT EXIST BACK THEN.
When I got steam it automatically used the CD key I guess.

Its Counter-Strike 1.6, not CS:S, not CS:CZ, just CS.

Please.... if someone knows how to find the CD key I used post it.
 
even if he had a non steam version cs,like 1.4, there is the sierra update that will tell you to download steam and then steam will upgrade the CS to version 1.6.then u can play online. but if you decide u dont like 1.6 and would rather play 1.5 or lower then just dont update and you, then, can only play LAN. also saw somewhere someone said you need steam to get cs or sumtin like that. well you dont. you just need it to play online.

Now as for finding the cdkey in the CS files i dont think there is a way. I looked around for a while and havnt found anything.Did you do the Sierra update thing to get steam or you just got steam by yourself throught the internet? b/c i think if you update it you wont need to enter a cdkey. Y dont you just buy CS:S(w/HL: DM+DOD:S) or HL:2(w/CS:S+HL: DM)??
 
He said he had it before steam, 1.5 probably. Also, that it auto updated to steam, so hes playing 1.6 now. He just needs to know how to find his CD key, no ones helping.

No they are not :P, this would be because of the obvious... They don't know. So what do they do (I'm guilty also!) They post with some comment that does not help and answer his question... Much like you just did.
 
here's a suggestion; try getting in contact with customer support and explain your situation and see if they can provide assistance.
it appears none of us know for sure, so i would think this is your best bet :)
