Couple of OC questions

I have a i7 920. I want to OC to 3.2ish. How to do it? What kind of increase in performance is gained when overclocking a pc regarless of how fast. Like when do you see the benefit?

To overclock you must change settings the BIOS to make the CPU run faster than its rated speed. The benefit is seen in games, programs, and benchmarks.

Example, when i had my 4850 i scored ~11300 points in 3DMark06. after overclocking my CPU to 3.8ghz i re-ran the becnhmark and my score increased to ~12800 points.

It's strongly advised to research overclocking before you do it, otherwise you risk doing something wrong and turning your computer into a doorstop ;)

make sure you have a good heastsink that will handle that temperature. first, do a stress test like prime95 and check the temperature and make sure that heatsink will handle a little bump in temperature. prime95 is also good for checking the stability of your overclock. after that look up online some speeds others are getting and check the multiplier and core speed (it think it is called core speed). linkin93 is right, it can do harm to your computer if you don't have a pretty good sense of what you are doing. with a higher cpu speed, you will see an increase in ram speed (i think so in your case). many other benefits too.

what motherboard do you have? If you just want to set it and go, if you have a good motherboard it will have an auto overclock feature. This sounds up your lane.
