hi
I've got a couple of questions about making a webpage.

I'd like to know, in addition to those free web hosting and paid fancy domain name, for example, www.kenny1999.com

can I host the website using my own home computer that usually runs for 24 hours?? This is not a website intended to open to the large public, and I only let some of my close friends to know the URL, can I have a website with URL that looks like an IP address (to save cost) For examplehttp://123.321.1.2........

just an example.

Can I also know the IP address of those who visit my website?

Is it difficult to implement the above idea?? Is it difficult for someone with only little HTML knowledge

This is definitely possible, and is relatively easy to setup. You would just need to setup port forwarding on your router to your server so it can be accessed from the outside, which would then be accessed via the IP. You can always buy a domain for relatively cheap, around $10-$20/year and point that to your IP address.

The possible restrictions could be that your ISP has a means to prevent people from hosting their own server, and may require you to change the port you host your website on. Do you know your internet speed? You will need an adequate upload speed if you plan to host files or media on your web server as well.

There are many programs out there that let you design a website using a WYSIWYG editor, so you need very little HTML knowledge to get a basic site up.

^ a question the OP might benefit from:

What hardware will I need to host for let's say 10 people? Will a Pentium dual core work or will I need more processing power? ;)

I would get a host. I have one that is $7.99 a month. Domain is $12 a year. Just make sure you enable domain privacy so that if anyone does a whois on your site your name, phone number and address doesn't show up. Go to this forum and research! http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

host for $7.99 and domain is $12 a year? I am confused?

Is domain only a nice address that points to my IP while host is where I can let the file running ?

What is the most economic solution for my needs?

1. my website is not intended to open to the public, I may even want an authentic check for each page (i.e. username and passwords).

2. I 'd like to know if I can subscribe a domain for a week or a month, instead of a year? I probably DON't want to have a fixed url domain name for a year.

3. Upload speeds? Can I use my home PC as the server and holds everything?
I guess probably less than five people will log onto my website at the same time.

4. I will want to contain some streaming video (My production). Is it difficult to make the video into flash??

Thank you!

Please look at the picture below, I've checked this site, HKD 17.44 for a year??? HKD 17.44 is just around USD 2 for a year... is it really that cheap to have a nice short domain?? is it scam or something different ?

and what does it mean by 'make my domian private' (while costing much more) ??

making your domain private means nobody can look at your name under sites like who.is, and we don't know if it's a scam or not because you're dealing with a whole different country. If the cost of living is less, my guess is most items are going to reflect that.

also, that domain isn't short. you can always give my.dot.tk a try and from your own home host a website using apache on an old pc or raspberry pi.

If a website is charging you to make your domain private I wouldn't go with them. Like I said, I pay $7.99/month and making my domain private was a few clicks in my account free of charge.

You will more than likely have to pay a year for a domain. I heard good things from namecheap. There's another one [strike]but I can't remember the name.[/strike] Namesilo was the name.

Like I said, visit this forum and ask questions BEFORE you dive into a website. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

Look for a host that offers cPanel and it should have softaculous which will allow you a quick one click install of a website. If you want to limit access to the website just password protect the directory. That tool is available in cPanel.
