I have come across a better CPU, mobo combo than the one I am currently using and want to couple it with my old hard drive, operating system and all. Any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this
Well you can do that but do be aware that in some cases, you will need to reinstall the OS before you can access the dataI have come across a better CPU, mobo combo than the one I am currently using and want to couple it with my old hard drive, operating system and all. It will work in your specific case. It wont always work.my answer: yes it will work, but like format ur C drive so u can start over again. its better that way
Unfortunately that's not entirely true either (thus eliminating any stable answer) ... sometimes you can get away with it sometimes you cant (more often not however)well, if you're using xp it won't let you change the system configuration without doing a clean install. every time you boot up the pc verifies the DMI pool data. If something major changes, like say the mobo and proc. then windows won't boot.
Well its worth a check...I was asking if this was possible to do without doing a clean install but it appears that I will have to re-format/ reinstall and lose all the data...so be it!
