My computer is acting weird for some apparent reason when the computer is idol the cpu fluncuates from 10 percent to 30 percent to 50 percent and down to 18 percent for no apparent reason. I did a virus scan and nothing was found. My computer specific s are

1. It might be some background applications, like Windows ones, or some other ones.

2. Why does it matter? If you aren't doing anything (you said when its idle) does it matter what the cpu is doing?

It matters because when i use the computer it then lags

its probably some program in the background

press ctrl + alt + delete and check for programs that might be causing it

(in the processes tab)

better than the ctrl + alt +delete trick, which only works for one session while your on the computer, go to Start>Run>"msconfig" and look through the last few tabs and uncheck programs that don't really need to be running when your computer starts up, only when you actually need to use em i.e. qtask-quicktime, realplay-realplayer etc, its pretty easy to figure it out and also left a post in your other thread but ill just put it in here. I had a similar probably a while back, i used a freeware program called Ram2Free, just google it or go to majorgeeks.com. All it does is clears out your ram so if there is left over program code in your ram, it tries to clear it out. It makes your computer really slow at first when its done but after a few minutes only the basic programming code remains in your ram, i use it before i go and play a game or something, seems to make it smoother, try it out the and see how it goes
