My CPU is messed up and I need to get a new one

have a hp a1310n with AMD Athlon 3700+ and socket 939

the one in my sig

I went on ebay to find this AMD 3800+ socket 939

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120420267760&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

is socket the only thing to worry about as far as compatibility? cause i went on hps website and it only listed 3 compatible cpus...but that maybe cause this is an old computer (3-4 years) and this cpu came out after the hp pc

thanks

You shouldnt have an issue running it, but what exactly is the problem with your cpu? Most of the time cpu's dont just get messed up for no reason..

The great thing about the new AMD CPU's is they are actually backwards compatible with the older generation of motherboards. The newer CPU's are actually missing 1 pin compared to their older bretheren. Hence they actually fit and work perfectly in old M/boards. This is great, I'm only a student, so I upgraded my CPU while I had the money, computer is running faster then ever. And when i get the money I'll upgrade my other parts. Where as Intel's
i7 stuff is honestly dud. They run hotter, they're far more expensive, they're speeds aren't nearly and high, and if you try to overclock them you'd better hope you have a nice little job that pays well, AMD have been recommended as one of the best overclocking chip sets in the world and I totally agree, AMD have really come far in the past year.
