hey, i was thinking about buying a new cpu cooler and this one caught my eye because i can buy another fan to attach to it

i'm open to all of your suggestions, but i'm not looking at spending too much on it.

the good thing about the one i have selected is that it is currently on sale, and it has free shipping! :D

my processor is a phenomII 550be which is AM.

And will it fit into a coolermaster elite 330?

Also i am from Australia so no newegg for me :(

Cheers!

some Australia sites i use.
www.9289.com.au
www.centrecom.com.au
www.megabuy.com.au
www.pccasegear.com.au (they have really expensive shipping $13 for 1 gram of thermal paste :( so i probably won't buy from here.)

thanks!

it looks good to me, should it keep my 80W phenomII 550 at around 14C like it did with the intel?

and what does it mean by 14C over ambient?

thanks!

Ambient is the room temperature, so if the room is 20c, the cpu will be 34c (according to those results). That cooler only has a 92mm fan, so it'll be loud on the highest speed.

good thing you told me that lol, i would have bought it assuming it would run at 14C.

is that very good for the price?
Would i notice a large difference between that and the stock 550 cooler?
and would it be enough to help me overclock a little further?

thanks

It'll be better than stock, so therefore will allow a little more overclock, but like anything, you get what you pay for. Just spotted this, a steal at that price, I think I paid $95 for mine!

unfortuneatley it doesn't come with a fan so i would have to buy one, and once i buy a decent fan and some shin etsu it will come to $89 including shipping :(

i may still get it though.

but will it fit in my case? it looks awefully big 63.44 x 132 x 160.5mm (LxWxH - heatsink only)
i have a cooler master elite 330 and its dimensions are (W)189 x (H)425 x (L)485 mm, but do you have to take the motherboard and so on into account?

it appears to have a lot of stuff i need to put onto it such as brackets and so on, are they very hard to put on?

actually i think i may buy it, i think i can scrounge up enough money so thats a happy face for me!
also what do you think of this fan to put on it?

its the Scythe SlipStream Fan 1900rpm SY1225SL12SH if the link doesn't work
is it any good? The SY1225SL12SH (1900RPM) moves 110.31CFM at 37.0dBA. Both 3pin and 4pin connectors supplied.

but before i buy does anyone know if it will fit in my case?

damnit!
oh well, i just realised i think i might have enough money to buy another 4Gb of ram so i think i might buy that instead and get a better heat sink later.

Seeing you are buying a "cheap" CM cooler, go for the Hyper 212 Plus

I have it, and im getting better results that a Prolimatech and True on my E6400 (LGA775)

try it. The Phenom isnt very heavy yet. I would say though, if you have an i7, get a cooler with more mass

but its working perfect for me...
