CPU Cooling.

I have a Tiny Tornade Athlon 64 3400+.

I have replaced the rear fan and this helped the noise but the CPU cooler now needs work. I have triied thermalake 103 fanless cooler, but un-stated on DABS web site this required a 120mm fan, even so tried the cooler and it didn't work at all well, not even as good as the standard.

I am thinking of replacing the coller with Zalman Super Flower cooler, however with so many units, now to choose fromm I find my self asking if it will really work well.

My priorities are sound, however I do run Seti and this does stress the processor a bit. Any advice on a quiet cooler when the system is constantly at 100% CPU use would be most appreciated. :)
 
I must agree that the Artic 64 certainly looks a good bit of kit. It appears to be very open like the Flower so should aid cooling. More interesting is the fanlayout which if positioned correctly should force the heated air out through the exhaust fan, acting as a push/pull config. This would even help cool the inside of the case and my case usually stays at a constant 32 degrees so it could do with a bit. Nice to see that they include a well known and good paste too, not many of them do. Fitting also looks very easy as it looks like it uses the standard Athlon retntion bracked rather than requiring mb mods.

Incidentally the Thermaltake unit I had didn't say anything about it's suitability, therefore I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone unless they are absolutely sure.
 
General info abut Arctic Coolers.

I have an Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2 M and I love it. It's by far the best cooler I have had. This is because of great quality, nicely arranged wiring, low noise, high performance and essentially a good price/performance relationship. I just thought that it would be useful sharing my opinion about these products.

It sounds like the Arctic Cooling products must be very good. All positive for this company. I think this cooler may be more appropriate than a Zalman for my set-up, the fact that it automatically adusts fan speed dependent on heat conditions would prove to be a lot more useful than a reostat. I like the idea of fit and forget, as long as it does it's job well I like to leave well alone. I will be ordering one so will inform you of my results. Thanx for the info.

:rolleyes: True true but often it's not really worth it. It is worth it when you have the bucks, the know-how and essentially a use for it (overclocking etc.). Otherwise I think that it's an overblow....

I finally went for the Arctic Cooling 64 and can recommend this cooler to anyone with an Athlon 64. This proves to be a worthwile cooler especially iif your isn't wonderfully ventalated like mine.

The only addition I would have like would have been an automatically controlled fan rather than one which constantly spins at 2200rpm, however you can harly hear it and it does work well.

The only problem I have now is my graphics card (Radeon 9800SE AIW) is too whiney.

With reference to water cooling, I must confess that it is a better option, however water cooling systems cost that much more and only really prove themselves when overclocking.
