CPU Fan Header?

I recently replaced my CPU fan thinking it bit the dust when my computer was shutting down sporadically due to high temps. I purchased a new fan, installed it, and booted up but lo and behold - no spinning.

Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter to check the voltage at the pins but I'd expect that to be the issue. My question is whether a problem with the pins could be remedied and if not what my options are for supplying power to the fan.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the fan won't reach any other headers, but it's brand new so I have little reason to suspect it's the fan that's defective. And as for trying another fan, if the old fan plugged into the same header wasn't working either...

At this point it seems reasonable to suspect the mobo. Am I limited to adapters?

Tried a different fan on the header and still no go. Moved my CPU fan to the case fan header and it seems to be fine.

Strange... I've not heard of fan headers dying, but I guess it's not totally out of the question. Though I'd still look into it a bit more. It's pretty rare you could totally disable your CPU fan for safety reasons, but perhaps somehow your fan controller is set to no spin the CPU fan? Have you tried resetting the bios recently?

It would make sense if it was damaged because of the overheating but it was overheating because the fan wasn't spinning so I don't know what to think. Didn't change anything in the BIOS prior to this fiasco but I'll give resetting it a shot and see what happens.

...thanks for your help by the way
