CPU fan not running properly?

My CPU fan on my new build runs and then stops...and then runs...and then stops...and continues on like this. The computer booted to windows and all that but i shut it off due to fear of the heatsink/fan not working properly. Anyone have any solutions for this?

Anything blocking it? Filled with Dust? Conected properly? Thats all I can think of.

Nah..figured it out. Gigabyte has some stupid thing where the fan adjusts to the cpu temperature.

most mobos do that and the result is a sudden burst of fan speed when you first boot up then it gets quieter once windows has loaded, if you think about it thats not a stupid feature its a energy saving and noise saving feature.

Yeah, I was about to suggest that. It's actually a neat feature to have at times. Was it supposed to fully stop or slow down? I know I've had fans that went so slow, when the motherboard would try to slow them down, they'd end up stopping until given more juice.

i found other people stating that their gigabyte motherboards(part of the DS3 line up) was revving the fan then stopping it upon cpu startup, and then the fans would run normally. I just had a feeling i'd be in windows and it'd keep doing it and i'd be out a cpu.

Just disable it in BIOS, i dont care much for those features
