cpu fan replacement

i have an amd athlon 1700xp, had it for 4 years and still with stock cooler and fan, it is on all day everyday, maybe restarted once a week and never shut down.....well maybe on 300days solid out of the year for 2 years now ;)

its got that little whiney AMD 60mm fan thats like 1cm thick and got like 10 blades......i clean it maybe once a month with a hoover(i no but not gona buy air!!!!!)

i was wondering if i got a 60mm to 80mm converter and put a coolermaster fan on it with 30cfm, it might quite it down and cool it better, its idle is 40, load 47.

wot should i do?? leave it or get the converter cos i have no clue about the specs on the fan i got

40-47 isn't really that hot. the only reason to change it is if you want a quieter fan, or want to OC

it should, 30CFM is quite a bit of air moving, and for an 80mm thats probably somewhere around 2500rpm so it can move more.

Watch Out :)

Man make sure that it's a quite fan. Make sure it's below 24DB!!!. Anything above that I would avoid. You would not be solving your problem, noise. Good luck man.

if i put the fane on and its not as good will it burn my cpu out or anything???

like if i put it on to see the temps will it burn out if its not good enough?

that's highly unlikely when going to a larger fan. as long as the heatsink is on and there is air moving over it, everything should be fine.

Ok

Appologize for the stupid comment earlier. It should not burn out. The only way that could happen is if the fan stopped working or when it would work but be so inefficent as to reach 85 Celsius at which the Athlon XPs like yours burn out. Running a cpu without a HSF is a different story :D .
