cpu fan

What do you think?
Fan or Mobo?

Mmm.. Recently, my comp has been rebooting itself. Some of these times, I've seen the cpu fan NOT spinning
So, it sometimes spins.. and.. sometimes doesn't.. Do you think it's the mobo crapping out, or just the fan? I've plugged it into other pins and seems to do the same thing but when I try lightly touching the fan when it's spinning, it still keeps spinning strongly (the RPM for the fan is right).
Don't tell me to buy this and that and test it.. I KNOW THAT :D but I'm lazy and poor *coughs* unemployed *coughs* (oh yeah, so if anyone happens to be in San Diego and have a job openning or has connections in the biotech/biomedical/medical/pharma/etc industry.. giveme a holler ;) or.. just any job.. I'm almost desperate :( )

BTW, I built the comp about 4 yrs back.

- Not entirely clear but, if you plug the CPU fan into one of the other mobo 3-pin connectors, does it spin?
- Is it possible the PSU isnt able to keep up with the system's power demands? Any more stability if you start unplugging a few devices?

"I've plugged it into other pins and seems to do the same thing" So yeah, it does spin sometimes at the other mobo pins.

Hmm.. I haven't tried unplugging things yet. My PSU is 420W. I've never had a problem before and haven't added anything new to my system so I never thought about the PSU. My other fans work perfectly fine.

1. Do one more check on the PSU (i'm not completely convinced)... have a look at the voltages it's giving your computer when you bootup, do something and keep track of the voltages and have a look at the voltages if/when it restarts

2. Point1 notwithstanding I'd say your mobo is at fault :)
