CPU fan

My old CPU fan stopped working so I ordered a new one.
I changed it but when I boot it gives me message "no CPU fan "I press
F1 to boot and it goes to Windows.Everything is fine, fan works great but still dont know why it gives me that message.

Were you running a stock heat sink/fan combination or a 3rd party setup? If you replaced one style or type for another the new one may be running at a slower speed where the minimum speed isn't reached. On many board an alarm is set to go off by default. Apparently you get an onscreen message. You can probably disable that in the bios.

It was stock heatsink/fan combination.I just replaced a fan.
I dont get any message while in Windows only when I boot up.

That's the system alert included in the bios. You will have to go into the bios setup to locate the warning settings there to lower the threshhold or disable the alert. This is a bios setting for hardware alerts not a Windows popup message seen there. Look over the user manual to find where the settings are on that make and model board.

Thank you guys,I was just a little scared that even my fan is working I can get my mobo fried.

Thanks

The fan does use 3 wires, corret? Because from the sound of it, your simply not getting the RPM signal from the fan. If the fan say is converted from a 4 pin molex connection to the 3 pin motherboard header, it wouldn't have the RPM sensor...

But either way, if the computer boots, your perfectly fine if you don't mind getting this error and can confirm the fan's working.

Im really curious, like the other one said. ( bah,. that name makes my sentence look stupid.. T_T ) does the new Fan have 3 cables?

Even with the 3pin plug the warning message would be disabled in the bios. If it has the correct plug with the fan speed too low the bios setting would be lowered to keep the alert there inactive until...  fan's going! When the fan was on the way out or cluttered with dust and debris the warning would then be seen before the cpu overheated.

it also has 3 cables going to that connector i gues?

anyway's.. it could be that the original Fan had a lower resistance between 2 pin's,.. and this one's resistance is a lot higher.
the motherboard could look on the 2 supply pinn's, and measure a resistance there.. if the resistance is low enough, it sees it as if a Fan is connected, but if that resistance is too high, it sees it like nothing is connected.

since it gives an error about no CPU fan, and not something like CPU fan rpm too low. anyway,... if the fan is blowing, and moves a decent ammount of air, youre fine. and im pretty sure you can disable the fan test in the bios somewhere :)

then i assume the old one has the 3rd pin grounded.

well... you have to go into the bios,.. and im sure somewhere you can disable that error.

but I wouldnt worry about the error... its just annoying, thats why you should disable it :D

Thank you for big help.
It's relieve for me.

Thanks again

You won't have to worry too much about that there. When first powering up today the cpu fan failure message appeared here. I simply went into the bios power section and turned it off there. If you know the cpu is running normally simply disable the alarm there.
